Hello there,
I am interested in purchasing International Test Cricket/Internet Test Cricket - I am planning on setting up a PBeM Game on my forums and believe that Internet Test Cricket is the way to go seem it allows you to select amount of days, and amount of overs - from my understanding.
I went to order Internet Test Cricket but its only a pre release - I do not know if I order and pay for it am I sent some sort of program that I can use.
If someone could answer these questions and let me know if:
+ If I purchase Internet Test Cricket will I be sent a program that I can use to run my PBeM
+ Does Internet Test Cricket allow you to really select amount of days and overs to play - does this mean I can select 1 day - 50 Overs or something like that and have a database of players for Test Matches and One Dayers?
+ If the answer is no to both of the above can anyone recommend one?
Internet Test Cricket
1) I know the program exists - I own registered version 2.0 beta 8. The install file size is under 1 MB if I recall. It is quite stable.
2) It does run PBeM, including generation of some HTML.
3) I haven't tried it under Vista - it works okay in XP if you select, in compatibility mode, "run in 256 colors".
4) I know that you can select number of days, and number of overs in a day.
However, my guess is that the algorithm won't work as well for ODI's, because this is a Test simulator, and ODI tactics are sufficiently different (Daniel, please confirm).
You could try it, but you would have to create a ODI database separate from the Test database (relatively simple to do, except for the typing and/or the conversion from Test ratings to ODI ratings).
5) Am not certain downloadable databases for International Test Cricket will work for Internet Test Cricket - the one that is included is a bit old. Again, Daniel, please confirm...
6) There was a great shareware ODI sim called "Howzat! One Day Internationals" (HODI), by Geoff Willetts - but it is not available from the author's website (site is dead, hopefully the author is enjoying Ricky Ponting's current nightmare :D ) - and the latest version - 1.24.1 - has not been updated in several years, so player databases must be updated manually.
The old Cricketgames.com page describing HODI is here:
http://www.cricketgames.com/games/shareware/hodi/index.htm
And that other reviewer? Theodore Kamis? That was, and is me.
And Share-It will send you the registration key, for US$ 19.95 (if their page for HODI is still really active) - the url:
http://shareit1.element-5.de/programs.html?productid=100624&languageid=1
However, downloading the trial that the key unlocks does not work there, either.
If Thomas still sells the Cricket Games.com CD-ROM, HODI 1.24.1 trial is on that CD.
Hope this helps!
