Cricket Live 08 'discovered'

I found this game whilst browsing GameDev.net where it was selected as the Image of the Day.

For some reason England and New Zeland are not included as teams but not sure why as all other test playing teams are included plus Kenya, Scotland and Ireland. Also the author claims to no longer be developing the game unless people want it finished. Whilst there are no contact details the screen shots mention Planet Cricket so I guess the author is a member of the forums there. I have only had a very quick play of the game but I like the concept.

These are screenshots from a cricket game I was working on last year. As you can see the graphics are...uhm...programmer art :)

Features

  • one-day formats: ODI, Slog, T20, Simulation
  • game modes: Exhibition, Tournament, Career
  • international teams: SA, AUS, IND, PAK, BAN, SCO, IRE, WI, ZIM, KEN, SRI
  • effects: realtime shadows, ball trails, clock, pseudo-3D advertising boards
  • in-game editor: players, teams, stadiums, field settings
  • physics: air friction, Magnus effect, spin/seam
  • shots: defensive, pull, sweep, hook, leg glance, cut, late cut, upper cut, drives (on, off, straight, square)
  • bowling styles: seam, swing, spin (orthodox/leg)

    • Controls

    Batting: (assumes right-handed batsman)

    Moving: (can only move when not charging a shot)

    A - move left
    S - move down
    D - move right
    W - move up

    Front-foot (O):

    A - square drive
    Z - cover drive
    X - straight drive
    C - on drive
    D - pull
    E - sweep
    Q - late cut
    S - defensive

    Back-foot (P):

    A - cut
    Z - backfoot cover drive
    X - backfoot straight drive
    C - backfoot on drive
    D - hook
    E - leg glance
    Q - upper cut
    S - backfoot defensive

    hold O/P and a shot to charge power and release the buttons to play the shot

    Bowling

    O - selects delivery type & marker
    hold O when running in to charge speed
    hold O when delivering to charge amount of swing/seam/spin

Update Coming Soon!

Hi all,

I've recently had some free time, so I've just been cleaning up the game a bit. I'll be uploading a new version sometime soon, probably on Friday. Anyhoo, here's a list of changes so far:

REMOVED

* career mode (not planning on continuing this)

ADDED

* inside & leading edges (implicitly handles bottom and top edges too)
* collision with pad (can inside edge onto the pads now, ricochet off pads into the stumps, bounce off pads to be caught at short leg, etc.)
* Wagon Wheel scorecard
* Fitness attribute to each player (affects how fast they tire from bowling/batting)
* Rashness attribute to each player (batsmen get carried away when they start hitting out, increasing chance of miscuing shots)
* England team

MODIFIED

* adjusted how edges & lofted shots are handled
* improved CPU batting (now uses late & upper cut, leg glance and hook) & bowling (uses stock balls more and makes better choices)
* improved CPU fielding (chases balls down properly, fewer overthrows, better field placings)
* fixed up partnership scorecard & added a Fall of Wicket list to the bowling scorecard
* fixed up the editors so they display correctly (still need to resize the controls, but at least it's more usable now)
* fixed up player attributes for all teams
